Share this:

Children are seeing as a major blessing for most Jamaicans. We take pride in instilling the values and attitudes we believe will make them formidable in life. While there are certain traits children exhibit that will draw scrutiny of many Jamaicans, there are others that Jamaicans love and once children display these traits, they will gain the admiration and respect of any Jamaican around. Here are 7 of those traits:

1.Brilliance

Have you ever heard the phrase “him bright like morning star”? Jamaicans respect and admire children who are brilliant, especially those who have the discipline to put their brilliance to good use throughout their academic careers.

2. Good manners

Jamaicans love children who have good manners – those who respect their elders, their peers and know when walk in humility.

3. Defiance

Yes you read right! Although Jamaicans respect children with good manners, many love to see a child who displays just enough defiance. I think it gives them hope, as they believe this child will not be taken advantage of in life as he or she will always fight or their rights.

4. Creativity

If you can sing, dance, run, play cricket, draw or style hair, Jamaicans will respect and encourgae you to reach for the stars. They’ll also tell you to remember them when you make it big in life.

5. Industriousness

Children who perform their chores diligently and assist their families and communities will always attract the respect of Jamaicans.

6. Boldness

Jamaicans love children who are bold because they believe one should be able to speak up in order to get the things they need in life. When a child is brave, it gives Jamaican adults some assurance that he or she won’t suffer easily in life.

7. God-fearing

Jamaicans respect God-fearing children for the simple reason that it is a sign that he or she will attempt to make good decisions, especially in a society like ours that really needs justice, fairness and equality.

Despite what others may think, Jamaicans admire and respect positive values and attitudes. Let’s continue to praise youth who exhibit the morals and values we admire. At the same time, as long as it’s done in love, we shouldn’t be afraid to correct those who aren’t displaying positive behvaiours.

Walk good!
