8 Tips on How to Enjoy a Trip to Jamaica with Kids

Navigating travel with small children can feel like herding cats – they have a knack for defying all attempts at coordination. But as parents, we still crave those unforgettable family adventures, with just a hint of relaxation for ourselves especially being in the midst of summer 2024. Enter Jamaica – a destination brimming with culture, adventure, and natural beauty, offering the perfect backdrop for family fun. So, with the summer being 510 degrees out, if you’re still dreaming of cool sandy beaches and reggae rhythms while keeping the little ones entertained, fear not! Here are 8 ways to enjoy Jamaica with kids, ensuring everyone has a memorable vacation – parents included.

1.Discover Jamaican Sweets: Treat your kids to the real taste of Jamaica with a visit to the peanut man or as he is called by his regulars “Nuttsy.” While Nuttsy may sell mainly treats like peanuts and peanut drops he tends to carry a wide variety of Jamaican sweet treats like coconut drops, grater cakes, and more. Your tour guide can point you to the best one in town.

2.Travel with Knutsford Express: Not planning to rent a car, but intending to parish hop? Book the Knutsford Express for convenient travel between parishes. With comfy air-conditioned seats, onboard entertainment, and free bottled water, it’s a stress-free way to explore Jamaica with the kids.

3.Explore Harmony Park: If you happen to be in Montego Bay and need a break from the kids and the talking check-out Harmony Park. It is a God-sent and offers a safe open space for them to run wild while being within your sight. The park has a friendly but vigilant security staff, a free beach, snacks, playgrounds, and a large open lawn – perfect for family picnics, fun and relaxation.

4.Dive into Snorkeling: Trust me, if you’ve got water-loving kids book a snorkeling experience. I guarantee those kids will be out by four so you can perhaps enjoy a quiet evening and maybe even a peaceful dinner at 6 pm.

5.Experience Coral Cliff: Coral Cliff is a jackpot for families. With games, food, and entertainment for all ages, it’s a hit with parents and kids alike. And the drinks? They’re spot-on, virgin or otherwise.

6.Slather on the Sunscreen: Don’t forget the sunscreen, especially in the Caribbean sun. Pack plenty to keep the whole family protected during your adventures.

7.Go All-Inclusive: Who wants to be cooking while on vacation? Opt for an all-inclusive resort to save money on snacks and meals, and to enjoy a hassle-free vacation with the kids.

8.Avoid Taxis: As much as is possible, skip the taxis, especially with little ones in tow. Then tend to get hot and cramped really fast not to mention how expensive they can get. Rent a car, do a charter or hire a guide for all in parish travels. It will overall make travelling with the kids more seamless.

So, pack your bags and slather on that sunscreen, it’s still possible to enjoy Jamaica with your kids for summer 2024. This island paradise promises unforgettable memories and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Sunscreen is SO important. Wear the strongest you can find. I used a weak sunscreen when we were in the Caribbean a few years ago, and I absolutely roasted.

Coral Cliff would definitely be a spot for us! We love game spots like that. Although, we still do our fair share of outdoor activities, too.

I will never take a taxi in Jamaica again. We were there a couple of years ago, and we got so hot. The car was also tiny, and the driver was an absolute maniac. It makes a good story now, but back then? Ouch.
