Welcome, (aspiring) adventurers!
I’m assuming you’re here because you’re ready to, or thinking of, planning a trip across Jamaica. That, or you’re trying to convince yourself to. Well, look no further. I’ll give you 5 reasons you should:
1. Support Local Businesses
We’ve all heard that no man is an island. When planning local trips, you’re supporting local businesses and helping to boost the economy. But this isn’t about the economy – this is for Miss Angie and Maas John and their children that you grew up with and their children. We support our own because we are all we have. Remember that. Your dollars can make a real difference in the lives of Jamaicans.
2. Explore the Island (And by extension, yourself.)
Don’t let the size of Jamaica fool you. “We likkle but we tallawah” extends to more than our athletes. There’s so much to see and do in and around our little island. From the stunning beaches and waterfalls to the historic sites and cultural landmarks, you can literally never run out of things to explore. And to be honest, you are more than your work or your house or your friends or your man. You deserve yourself. To try new things and push your limits; step outside your comfort zone and learn more about who you are. Travel is a great way to do that. So I dare you to go out and discover yourself.
3. Experience Jamaican Culture
Jamaica is known for its vibrant culture, and by planning local trips, you’ll get a chance to experience it firsthand. You might be thinking that you know Jamaica like the back of your hand. But trust me. Our culture extends and twists and morphs depending on which town, parish, or county, you find yourself in. I, for one, am still baffled that only Montegonians call the banned plastic bags “lada bag” vs the “scandal bags” Kingstonians know it as.
Go figure. Imagine what else you can learn. From the music and dance to the food and language, don’t miss out on the chance to get a taste of what makes Jamaica, and by extension Jamaicans, so special.
4. Connect with Nature
Jamaica is a naturally beautiful country, with lush forests, crystal clear waters, and stunning mountain ranges. Get out of the city! And if you’re not in the city, gain a new perspective on nature around you. There’s a reason Jamaica is known as the jewel of the Caribbean. (And if it isn’t, it should be). As we try to survive in this country, we forget to take the time to enjoy our lives – literally stop and smell the flowers. Only human beings make something as extraordinary as life seem so..dull and draining. I don’t want that for you. So take some time, get a ride (or convince some of your friends and carpool), and go out to connect with nature and appreciate the island’s natural wonders.
5. Create Lasting Memories
Lastly, local trips are a great way to create lasting memories with your loved ones. The way things are happening with the swiftness, every moment counts. You can’t be working so hard to provide a good life for yourself and the ones you love – only to neglect them in the process. The money will come back. Your time won’t. Be mindful to spend that wisely as well. Whether you’re exploring a new part of the island or simply relaxing on the beach, you’ll be making memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.
