Nineteen-year-old Jamaican sprinter Bouwahjgie Nkrumie made history on March 29 when he became the first Jamaican junior athlete to dip below 10 seconds in the 100m dash . Bouwahjgie ran 9.99 seconds in the Class 1 100m event at the annual Boys and Girls Champs – now underway at Jamaica’s Nationl Stadium. Bouwahjgie won the event for his high school Kingston College and is being eyed as a suitable candidate to follow in the footsteps of sprint king Usain Bolt.

2. He is the captain of the Kingston College track team for the 2023 Champs event. Kingston College has traditionally done well at Champs, having won the annual event over 30 times.
3. Bouwahjgie broke two records in one day. About an hour before smashing the 100m record in the final of the Class one event, Nkrumie clocked 10.08s, in the 100m semi-final event.
4. He’s the first Jamaican junior sprinter to dip below 10s.
5. He’s the third junior sprinter in world history to dip below 10s. Before his feat Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo (9.91) and America’s Trayvon Bromell (9.97) dipped below 10s when they were juniors.
