As Jamaicans, we have a deep-rooted pride in where we hail from, not just from an island perspective, but from a communal standpoint too. And one thing that really unites us is the sheer strangeness of how many of our local communities share the same names. Last time, we took a trip exploring the various areas in Jamaica called Hopewell, and now, let’s dive into 4 communities named Williamsfield in Jamaica.
1.Williamsfield Manchester: One of the more commonly known Williamsfields in Jamaica, Williamsfield Manchester is also home to the Historic Railway Station. Built around 1891, this place is a great throw back to the days when the railway was a significant part of Jamaica’s transportation system.
2. Williamsfield Portland: Located close to countryside of Nonsuch in Portland parish, is nestled the community of Williamsfield. Williamsfield Portland is situated nearby to the hamlets Happy Grove and Seaside. This Williamsfield is where you go when you want to escape the hustle and bustle and just breathe in the simplicity of rural life.
3. Williamsfield Westmoreland: This Williamsfield apart from being the home to a host of some of the most communal and affable Indians in Jamaica, it is also the gateway to one of Jamaica’s hidden gems; Fenton Falls. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can head there through the Hartford area near Negril. The falls is of the most beautiful and best kept secrets of Jamaica; only to be discovered by those who dare to venture off the beaten path.
4. Williamsfield St. Elizabeth: Ah, St. Elizabeth, the land of rolling hills and fertile farmland. It’s here you’ll find Williamsfield, a cozy rural retreat where time seems to slow down. Surrounded by nature’s bounty, this Williamsfield gives you a taste of Jamaica’s agricultural heritage and the warm embrace of community.
We may not have captured all the Williamsfields in Jamaica so don’t hesitate to share with us a Williamsfield in your parish. We know that community has its own story to tell and its own unique vibe and would love to hear about them from you so also feel free to drop a comment about your community.
